fed: a goal for the week

bowl of goodness (or so they tell me)

i believe in making small goals. each week. little things: more water, an apple a day, and on and on and such and such.

eventually these goals build on each other. they snowball (and tis' the season, right?).

i returned from thanksgiving with a terrible case of the homesick-blues and just ever-so-slightly in a state of sugar shock.

i didn't feel as though i overrate this thanksgiving holiday, but i certainly ate more than normal. this is not to say i regret one thing i put in my body or that i'd change anything. the holidays is a time to indulge in things you might not normally have. why not?! i say!

but i do believe in balance (i am a libra, after all).

and returning to my own home, and my own kitchen, and my own city today i felt the need to balance my sugar-shock with something else.

so i set a goal.

this week i will reach for the unusual. i will step out of my comfort zone in terms of healthy foods. i won't rely on my old standbys.

so this morning i pulled the yellow bowl from my favorite set of dishes. in it i put a small container of greek yogurt (not using greek yogurt as a sour-cream-substitute {but as actual yogurt} is a big thing for me), blackberries, walnuts, and a little go lean crunch.

and then lunch found me at the whole foods bar noshing on red quinoa and an endive salad. i hated it at first, thought what have i done? but the more i noshed the more i felt my body thank me.

when i eat things that are really good for me (nutritionally speaking) i feel space open up within me. perhaps it's an imagined thing, but it's marvelous nonetheless. it as though my chest becomes a cavity filled with light and space and energy (am i getting too new age-y yet?).

so, do tell...have you a goal for the week? ( i want to know wether it's to write more often in your journal or sign up for the nearest singles's dodgeball league).

I am not really good with setting and achieving goals, maybe mainly because I tend to set but the long-term ones. Will give the one-week-goals a try.
Your blog is really inspirational.

I've been promising myself I will balance out my Thanksgiving calorie-bomb with some good, healthy foods as well . . . as soon as I finish the caramel brownies that are still leftover. :)

Totally know what you mean about whole, healthy foods though. I made brown rice and butternut squash last night for dinner and it felt so nourishing.

my goal this week is to take time for myself to either run, do yoga or even just star into space. Coming back from the holidays means lots of catch up at work and at school..so I'm trying to give myself an hour here and there.

I make weekly goals as well. Just little very accomplishable things. This week it is to read a scripture verse with my kids every night, and work out with my husband for half an hour every evening.

This morning as I lotioned myself up after my shower I noticed my upper arms have been a little bigger and droopier than usual. Horror of horrors for me I think. I haven't been exercising as much as I normally do, using pregnancy as an excuse. But I simply refuse to do with saggy arms. So I'll be stepping it up a notch, and once I pop the belly, back to running big-time. That's my goal. Not that I'm obsessed or anything like that. And I would never sacrifice the baby's health for the sake of my weight. :-)
Happy Holidays!

My goal this week is less procrastination, less stress. Actually, that's my goal for today. So I should go finish addressing 300 wedding invitations and then start on all of the homework that is due tomorrow.

i've noticed that if i make my goals just for the week, or even day, and not for the rest of forever i can actually get them done because life changes week to week, day to day. i try not to have a set work out schedule for forever but i re-plan it week by week. plus it keeps things exciting.

This week in school is one of the worst, so I'm just setting little homework goals. I'll try to eat regular meals and come up for air too. It is just one of those weeks.

It is hard to be back after Thanksgiving, but I think we'll make it! Have a wonderful Tuesday, Meg!

I have the same goal - to have some healthy, whole foods calm after the holiday sugar storm! Also, to ease up on the caffeine. (It got a little wild during grad school finals week last week.)

PS I'm in love with greek yogurt and have been experimenting with all different concoctions, and one of my favorites has been a diced apple, a diced banana, walnuts, and a bunch of cinnamon mixed with vanilla greek yogurt. (It's scrumptious.)

I have also recently rediscovered the magic of greek yogurt - I eat mine with a couple tablespoons of ground blueberry-infused flax seed and some dried berries-mixed granola (all purchased from my favorite, Trader Joe's) and it delights me with its varying textures and flavors even as it keeps me full til lunch. Or it would, if I didn't come from an upbringing of snacking rather than eating 3 square meals, but it definitely satiates me til my mid-morning snack of veggies and hummus. Mmm! Good for you for branching out with small goals!

I always feel good when I eat healthy things too. (Nosh -- cute word!) My goal for the week is to start running again. Before the holiday I was running a mile each day with my sis. Then we got busy and we ate too much, etc. Now it's time to get back into shape. It's gonna be hard, but I think I can! :)

My goal for this week is to plan two essays. And to exercise as much as possible. Here's hoping I stick to it and meet all deadlines; the academic one and the one of feeling better, safer, more alive.

P.S - One day I hope I can eat yogurt. Unless it is for kids - thick, sugary, fromage-frais - I tend to stay clear. One day.

My goal this week is to not fall asleep without washing my face and brushing my teeth even once. I dream big. Okay, and maybe start running on December 1. Seems like a good time to begin..

This week my goal is to do strength training three times.

And I am eating a spicy quinoa, dried apricot and toasted almond salad as I write this... how funny. Love me some quinoa.

my goal this week was to stop being afraid, stop procrastinating.

So, today I found a workout buddy, set a workout date, and started filling up my life. and my goal, for the rest of the day, and the rest of the week, is to stay busy, even if it means staying busy with meditation, or blogging, or re-organizing my room. I'm going to get off my butt

I'm homesick too, after going to see my family for Thanksgiving:). Isn't it odd-this in-between stage of being a part of your parent's household...to creating your own household? I think so.

Just want to give you props for the mindset you have -- and your new goal! I've been reading your blog for a while but I've been mostly a lurker. Thought it was high time to comment and commend you on just how awesome you are.

My goal for the week is to try to spend a little more time journaling and in prayer.

I do the same thing :) My goal this semester (I'm a Junior in college) has been to be in bed by 10:30 and up at 6:30. I feel so much better, probably look better, eat better, exercise more, and study more. For probably the first time at college I've found my waist smaller even after Thanksgiving then when I arrived at school and I attribute a lot of it to my better sleep schedule :)

My goal is survive this week AND find a place to take ice skating lessons this winter. :)

My goal for this week is to start choreographing my dance and to get some sleep. Considering I have to wake up in four hours, that second goal is already succeeding terribly.

my goal for the week - making more decisions, not shying away from having to decide. Being a libran, i am not the best choices, but that's my goal for the week. More decisions everywhere - work, restaurant [God what i do for letting others select] and home.
let's show the world who's the mummy :D

oh that breakfast looks so delish! can you believe the only two things im allergic to in the world are yogurt and sour cream. oh how i pine for thee....

hmm my goal is to walk each day, even if its raining.
i said i would start exercising but have used a bazillion excuses on why i cant each day so i have to stop with the excuses. So today i pounded the streets in the rain and felt good (though incredibly wet) afterwards!

My goal this week is to not shame myself for the Thanksgiving indulgence but get right back on the healthy-eating wagon!

I also just want say thank you for your honest words and thoughts about eating. I've had a VERY similar history with food and it's so encouraging to find camaraderie, even in the impersonal internet. Keep it up! :)
