something has happened...

i've been watching damages. the fx show with glenn close and rose byrne. you know it? you should. it's good. it's so good for so many reasons. particularly the first season. the writing, the editing, the colors, the way in which it unravels.

and somewhere amongst its twists and turns and unraveling i became startlingly taken with...wait for it...rose byrne's hair. oh, that hair! the highlights, the ombre effect that's become so popular this season. and suddenly i too, i too want highlights! never before have i felt the need to color my hair. well, okay there was that one time at the end of my fourth year that i did the bottle red and that was disastrous on every possible level, but i don't think my motives were as pure then. and good hair is all about pure motives, right?

the thing is, this need (because that's what it is) couldn't have come at a worst possible time. i don't have time for it. nor money. and yet, it's begun to consume me... suddenly hair everywhere is taunting me. and i like my color. i do, i really do. it's just that. well, that...a little lift to it, a few added dimensions...a little ombre, if you will, seems right up my alley.

you can always get one of those at-home highlight kits at the drug store. when i was still a blonde, i used to spruce the color up a bit by using those, and i always got a lot of compliments! its super easy to do, but i would suggest having a friend around to do the back of your head for you. they're not expensive!

I love that show. It's so dark. Rose Byrne is gorgeous.... Wait til you watch season 2 - her hair styles (lots of nice, messy updos, wispy bits around her face) and wardrobe are to die for. I believe she wore a lot of Narciso Rodriguez. And black. Lots of black....

Ooh, have you ever seen Rose Byrne in I Capture the Castle?
Her hair and outfits are just so lovely.

Meg...I went gray at 18 and have had to get my color done every 5 weeks to keep it up. Color and highlights...not cheap, but so worth it! Go for it!

funny. i, too, have been obsessed with this since i saw these pictures of jessica biel. http://www.luuux.com/health-beauty/subtle-ombre-hair-jessica-biel

I'm saving up little by little, and i hope that by the time i have the money and time, it will still be relevant. hope you post a picture when you do it!

I totally get it! I have never colored my hair at all.. and I feel the need for a change.
it's pricy but maybe worth it?

I don't understand this ombre of which you speak.

I started to slowly go grey at 26 and REFUSED to allow it to stay there...so I started to color my hair. In theory...it's great. I can be creative (though I don't go crazy...just different shades of brown as close as possible to my own natural color) but it's a pain in the ass to keep up with!!
So proceed with caution...it's a bitch to continue to do or grow out.

Lol - funny, I've been pondering this too lately. I generally do like my hair color, but lately I've been noticing a lot of highlights on people's hair on tv (either that, or I watch way too much Top Model), and have been wanting to do something a little more daring w/ my look! We'll see if that actually happens. ;)
