waiting for morning.

i used to think i couldn't sleep next to the men i cared about because i was afraid they'd leave.

it took some time to learn that i wasn't so much afraid they'd leave as utterly excited that they would stay, and night would turn to morning, and i'd wake to two coffees and a shared newspaper and a filled silence.

and it was that excitement that kept me from sleep, stretching the night forever in front of me.

so i'd lie there, eyes open, like a child, whispering,

wake up, wake up, i'm ready to play now.

I can't sleep next to the men I care about because I'm so happy to be sleeping next to them. I don't want to miss a moment of our shared breathing, his arms around me.

I didn't live with my husband before we were married, but this has turned into my favorite thing about being married: it's fun! It's like a sleepover every night except he and I both care in a way that's so deep and so giving that waking up to our bodies wrapped around each other and a kiss on the forehead as I brush my teeth is exactly the morning that I hope for every day for the rest of my life.

If only us men would listen more often to our true loves than not, instead of giving the excuse "I wasn't thinking..." It's actual listening (to the verbal and nonverbal) not just listening-listening. Confidence is built by showing, even as minimal as the action in.

Confidence yeilds excitement, yielding confidence.

Oh, who ever knew that even keeping our eyes shut could enable us to look deep within each other's souls.

Very beautiful. Chilled out mornings are the best when spent with a lover/partner X

It's far too true, I'm so sleepy all the times I'm seeing someone after sleepless nights of anticipation!

This could be a book. I love this little vignette so much and it captures that excitement beautifully. I love your writing! The post about heartbreak was so relevant to me. I immediately sent it to my best friend is going through an almost breakup... Or a breakup with an almost boyfriend. It was perfect.
