WHAT I'M LISTENING TO// brandi carlile

i'm quite sure many have suggested this singer-songwriter to me before, but for whatever reason i either never looked her up or well... i don't know actually. yesterday i was lost in the world of jumping from one youtube video to the next (you know, as you do) and i came across her npr tiny desk session and was hooked by the first song, but then came the second and third. and now i find i'm looking up everything she's ever done. ever. so do yourself a favor and make sure you get to the 4:37 mark.

I just watched this last night -- so fantastic. My sister & I are seeing her in August & I cannot wait!

I did the exact same thing about two weeks ago. I've heard her songs on the radio but didn't own any of her music. No idea why. I'm hooked now and currently trying to figure out how to play some of her songs on my guitar. Love!

Ah, yes. Brandi is awesome! I'm always surprised to meet people who don't listen to her or don't even know who she is. I hadn't even heard of her until a couple years ago when a contestant on American Idol sang "The Story"... Ha. I've been obsessed ever since!

You need to look up her "Josephine". It's divine. It's perfection. I haven't been able to stop listening to it for weeks.

the song that starts at 4:37 reminds me a lot of Missy Higgins. If you haven't listened to her already, you should check her out. She's one of those singers who speaks to my heart.

@Jackie: i've been in love with missy higgins ever since i got to school--one of my closest friends is australian and introduced me and then when i had my heart broken--well missy higgins was vital to that recovery!

(also, did you end up coming into the city)?!

I LOVE BRANDI CARLILE.
obviously I had to put that in all caps for emphasis. I don't know, there's just something about her voice. it's so raw and beautiful.

Oh my goodness. I have so many Brandi Carlile feelings. I just got to see her concert at Red Rocks in Colorado last Saturday night and I may never be the same. Watching her perform "The Story" live was so incredibly powerful. She is a once in a lifetime talent. Just look up EVERYTHING. You won't regret it.

oh, brandi... i've got the early years of grey's anatomy to thank for her. i was invited to a small, acoustic lunch time show a few years back. there were 20 of us or so and she was the most gracious artist, in addition to being mega talented and using every ounce of those pipes of hers. in the end, though, she was disappointed in me for having never seen 'the never ending story'.

dang.

I am loving these comments! Two summers ago, my sister made me a mix for my birthday that included Touching the Ground, and I was hooked. Give Up the Ghost is still probably the only album I can listen to on loop for days at a time and never get sick of. I'm with Kate- so many Brandi Carlile feelings!

I second "Josephine".
I have been obsessed with Brandi for an amazing 8 years filled with her music that gets to the marrow of your bones and the core of your soul.

Please, please look up her version of 'Sixty Years'.
I recently saw Brandi perform with the Oregon Symphony Orchestra in May. There are no words.
I'm going to see her perform in Bend, OR in September & w/the Seattle Symphony in November.

Oh, how I love her. We saw her last year at the Life is Good festival (along with the Avett Brothers, sigh) and she was amazing!
