i hadn't written much--i couldn't find the words to accurately chart what a compelling year it was for me. where were those posts i was sure i had written?
i've become a lazy writer. i'll cop to that. not that i've ever been terribly disciplined. but as of late...well, it's been harder to get the words out. and the fear of that reality has kept me from even trying.
so i woke this morning, determined.
i sat down, pounded some very poor words onto paper.
gave up halfway through and pulled out a book instead.
reading is imperative for writers. {that was my excuse this morning}.

As I sit here reading this from my internal office, I am experiencing a hybrid of longing and jealousy that your Wednesday morning consists of a good smelling candle, what can only be delicious coffee and a good book, and a seemingly perfect reading chair. How simple and lovely.
I know the struggle. 2012 WILL be different, and reading sure is a must for us writers. :)

I felt like this at the end of 2011, too! But you'll get it back. And I agree - read until you want to write!
If I could read a book in that very spot, I think I would be a happy girl for the rest of my life. I also think you've written amazing things this past year, but I also understand the struggle sometimes.
Maybe you did not express 2011 the way you thought you had, but you you wrote a lot of beautiful things in 2011. I know this because I kept starring all of your posts in my Google Reader because I thought they were so lovely.
But really, it's so true.
oh my goodness, this is my main excuse. when pen to paper feels like torture, books make me feel like i will hopefully absorb their greatness through osmosis somehow.
i totally agree that reading is important for writers. if i'm not reading a lot i find that my writing starts to suffer. when i read something really good, i can't wait to try and write something that stirs me as much as someone else's words.
Girl, that's what I've been doing since November. Sit to write and... take to taking pictures instead.
Here's to that! Sometimes the words just aren't flowing. Can TOTALLY relate. Other days - can't seem to get my thoughts on paper quick enough. Enjoying your blog...cheers.

I love your chair and your general set up. I really want an arm chair to curl up and read in.
And I think reading makes you a better writer too, that I why I spent the last couple of hours reading instead of brainstorming and writing.
I wasn't very good at writing much in 2011, either, but I have to disagree with you. You wrote lots, and it was all brilliant!
I love reading, whatever I can get my hands on.
Any time I want to write but can't seem to do it well, I always find a book or blog or journal to read for inspiration.
By the way, I think everything you wrote in 2011 was awesome.

2011 was a difficult year, but I found comfort in writing after being inspired by so many great bloggers - yourself included :-)
When this happens to me, I just tell myself, "It will come. It will come when it's supposed to." And it usually does. Just not as often as I'd like! :D
I am currently knee (okay maybe elbow) deep in doing my PhD at the moment so I absolutely agree with you - reading is essential! For some reason I had lost the ability to spell somewhere into last year so I went back to fabulous classics to remind me how beautiful, lovely and wonderful the English language can be. I just finished Nancy Mitford's 'Love in a Cold Climate' and I feel SO much better for it.
I say enjoy your little position there by the window!

That looks like a very comfy chair! And yes, reading is VERY imperative for a writer to do (and a lot more fun!). ;P
