a light breeze and i'm off and...walking. today, i'm walking.

ring 1

(last night a man told me i looked like the spitting image of natalie portman in black swan.
really?
i have a lot of strange notions about what i look like, but really?
i don't know if it was a compliment or his way of saying i look tired and neurotic.)

the air is barreling in through the windows today. cutting across the living room and kitchen. cutting across the gray-blue walls of my room to where i sit in my beloved reading chair.

i slept last night.  got a full night of sleep. and what wonders that strange and lovely elixir of sleep is! i awoke feeling like a person. a person who could get through the day before her, and as i'm told, that's important.

i keep catching smells and missing things. this morning it was the beach. a few days ago it was my aunt and uncle's home in new jersey. funny how each smell is of a place of peace and balance.

i had this dream for the month of may. that i'd wake each morning and spend an hour writing. one hour doing the very thing that creates a vibrational energy in the deep tissue of my body.

now it is june. and this did not happen. writing gave way. and exercise gave way. and a tidal wave of the mundane overtook. mundane but necessary.

i haven't moved my body in a month. my poor body! it's desperate for a challenge. so instead of spending any more time here i'm off for a morning walk along the hudson. there was a brief time it would have been a morning jog. sigh. oh well, i'll get back there?

ps: coming to book club this saturday @ 2:30? it's at the same location as last go round. if you'd like to attend and don't know where the meet-up is i need you to send me an email at wilybrunette@yahoo. entitle it BOSSYPANTS so i can get back to you immediately!

@ stevie: fear not, they might not always be terribly prompt from month to month, but we'll continue 'em!

It's amazing what sleep can do for you. Any time I'm having a bad day I go to sleep as soon as I can. It's almost as if it erases all the craziness and lets you start over.

A walk is as good as anything! And running comes back before you know it. Bodies remember :)

Enjoy your day off!

I just started jogging again a couple days ago. It's always so hard to restart the body. But it's a good thing too. :)

PS... Looking like Natalie Portman is always a compliment. And yes, I see the resemblance.

a walk is a good place to start. don't even worry about it. and yeah, i can see the natalie portman resemblance too, but it's not the crazy girl natalie, so take the compliment :)

Sleep is magical. And I think he was trying to give a compliment. Maybe he should have picked "No Strings Attached" instead of "Black Swan." Less neurotic. More prettyprettypretty :)

enjoy your walk. My body has been crying in desperation of some movement of my part. walk an extra corner for me please, xo

Glad to hear that you got a full night sleep - you deserved it, girl!

And I so wish that I was in New York so that I could join your book club! Someday...

I love your bathroom photos :) Natalie Portman look alike, or not, you're beautiful!

I know exactly what you mean about mundane things taking over everything else...it just takes some effort to re-kindle the habit of doing things that make YOU happy and breaking out of that day to day grime.

Speaking of...i should probably get my running shoes out too ;)

it was a compliment, i'm sure. this morning my hair was especially wavy, and the feathers in my hair were particularly noticeable, and i thought i looked like steven tyler. so that's weirder.

ps, keep sleeping, waking, walking, breathing. you got it.

It's amazing how one nights sleep can make it feel like everything is all good. Its a slow process but you'll totally get back to a morning jog!

Gotta love strangers' comments! Just last weekend, a man came up to me in the metro and said, "I'm not a pervert but I love your dress." Then he proceeded to hang around, "not be a pervert," and talk until my train came ... 12 minutes later.

oh, this feeling--the way smells bring back memories. it's so powerful!

I think I see the Natalie Portman resemblance--but I see it in the healthy, beautiful that she and you are.

Never underestimate a walk.
I'm learning that.
I can't exercise because I have joint problems (at 25!).
So I think Psshhhh, walking is the same as sitting still.
Tell that to my body.
A little walk can do wonders.
We're designed to move.
The whole purpose of our brain is for movement.

Animals that don't move, don't have a brain. There is this one sea animal, I forget what... a starfish? A jellyfish? that starts with a brain as an adolescent, then when pick a place hunker down for life, it eats its brain. It's gross but true.

Dori in Finding Nemo said it best, "Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming." Just keep writing. Just keep breathing. Just keep moving...

Just keep on keepin' on.

"a tidal wave of the mundane overtook"

How true is this! I feel like this all the time. I was getting up my motivation in May to declutter my house, catch up on laundry, and get some new furniture. Now it's June and I barely have anything done... or even started! Life just seems to get in the way sometimes, doesn't it?

As for the Natalie Portman reference...
You're both smooth-skinned with big eyes & eyelashes + a polished hairstyle.
Not too shabby a comparison, I'd say.
But it's all preference.
I LOVE it when I'm compared to Olivia Wilde. I hate being compared to Emily Deschanel.

I would take it as a compliment :) I got "a brunette version of scarlet johansson" once. I can't see it but I was pleased they could haha.

I adore your writing, my dear. "i keep catching smells and missing things." Every time I smell fresh cut grass I think of our lake house we used to have. Love how smells can bring back lovely memories of peace and joy.

And dahling, you are gorgeous! Natalie Portman ain't got nothing on you :)
