a guide to a successful self-portrait session. (in the bathroom).

1. stop worrying about whether it's narcissistic. it is. move on.
2. pull out your bumpit. if your gonna engage the ego, might as well add a bit of whimsy.
3. choose a bathroom with strong lighting to wash out any flaws.
4. make sure the camera is in focus, even if you are not.
5. know that for every 10 photos you take there might be 1 good one. and that's a pretty successful ratio.

no, but in all seriousness, i joke about this and i take excessive amounts of bathroom shots because i actually have a tremendous fear of having my photo taken. darn that last vestige of ned. but i'm working on it. here's to the day when i won't need to ever employ the bathroom photo shoot again!

and since i'm feeling "in the answering questions mood": the lipstick worn in my other bathroom shoot was benefit lip stain in posietint.

i am unbelievably photo.shy. it's actually the largest source of wedding stress for me. tastings, invitations, dresses, coordination -not a problem. a day devoted to photos? my heart stops.

sing it, sister.

Hehe, I like your instructions! and you look gorgeous in the photos as usual.
I just went through a whole bunch of your posts again, both ned related and not. I love the way you write!!! And how open you are about the things you write about. :o)
But now I have to blame you for the hour of procrastination I just spent on here! hehehe

Can you explain how you do that bump in your hair? My hair is very similar to yours and would love to know how to style it that way. Thanks!

Meg,

I'll take pictures of you anytime you want. Seriously. Check out my stuff if you don't believe me. www.fromthisterrace.com, www.michaelmarkhamonline.com/photography, or my pics on facebook. I miss you. We should get some coffee or tea. And cookies. I'm big into cookies lately.

This is so witty. I absolutely love it. I haven't done a bathroom photo shoot in ages...it's definitely time that changes. :)

love this! i really like your blazer and blouse, the bathroom is gorgeous, and i love your expression in the second picture. so sassy! side note: i would love to know more about how you chose that specific camera and how you're liking it. i need a better camera but i have absolutely no knowledge on the subject.

oh goodness, just buy a plane ticket and you can sleep in my extra bed (because i know bavaria, germany is your destination of choice).

to answer your question, though, i am planning on being here at least another year....bavaria til june 30, hoping for salzburg again this summer and then possibly another year in germany next academic year (or poland).

in other words: just get over here!

I do the same way. If I take a picture of myself it takes me like 10 or 15 minutes to get the right one.

I don't quite know you, but I love you!
Pssst...what lens are you using?

we have had so many conversations at work about the bump it. i think it just all comes down to moderation of the ratting.

personally, I think it looks very cute on you!

BEAUTIFUL!!

your bathroom looks so glamourous!!! and thank you for saying that i'm not the only one that has to take 10 photos to find one decent one.

as much as i can tell my husband anything and feel at ease with him in every day life, there is something awkward asking him to take my photo still. an insecurity of mine? you bet. but one step at a time.

without sounding way creepy - you are seriously so pretty! i think you have absolutely nothing to worry about, but I understand its not as simple as that.

Bumpit!! I've never seen it look so great!!

sometimes i think you are secretly a glamourous film star from the 50s. i only wish i looked so good in my bathroom mirror :)
also, you are making me want to get a bumpit! i never thought it could look like that! (you know, pretty, and not crazy like i saw on the informercials 3 years ago. haha)
p.s. where is that polka-dot shirt from?! i must have it!!
p.p.s. my new lipstick is Nars "schiap". it's so bright, but i wear it as a stain and it makes me SO happy! have to check out the benefit one!

you are so beautiful and i also love me some bathroom shots! good lighting. :)

Awesome! I tried the "bumpit" once. Not a good look on me. At all!

By the way, I LOVE your auburn shade! My recent color turned out a bit too red for my taste (even though it looked auburn on the box). Would you mind sharing your hair color shade? It's perfect!

Christie

meg fee said...

@ christie: i got it done at the salon so i don't know the shade. it's actually a gold, but over my dark hair it comes off auburn. i hate it! i appreciate your kind words, but i look at it and want my own hair color back--i don't like the red against the natural pink of my cheeks. long story short: i can't help you because i don't know the shade. but good luck searching for your right color and when you find it please share!

Ha! Cute! I love this idea. :) I'm not as brave as you to do a bathroom photo shoot, but maybe it's time I start.

Bridget said...

hahaha, i love number 1.

i feel like being pregnant and having a bump to document somehow undoes the narcissism. but it still is. cause im all "look how cute pregnancy is!"

yup. still is.

molly said...

WAIT. do you actually own a bumpit?

Lily said...

I bought a "bumpit" just because of these pictures. I was unsuccessful at creating the bump though, :(

You sure are pretty.
