i have seen my fashion future as a mother.
and it does not look good.
this week i'm babysitting full time.
so i woke this morning at 7. put on some faded grey gap pants, a $5 yankee championship t, and my burgundy danskos (which are always on stacey and clinton's what NOT to wear list), and NO MAKEUP.
okay, okay, so in the interest of full disclosure, i wear the pants a lot, but not usually with such a disheartening ensemble.
in her memoir, happens every day, isabelle gillies talks about being the mom in practical clothes who loses her husband to the woman in marc jacobs.
so if i know this is the direction i will lean. and i don't yet have a husband. perhaps there is still time for me to nip this in the bud.
right?!

i'm a lululemon stretchy pants and giant sweatshirt type of girl.
i wore my stretchy pants so much theres a hole in them now.
but i still wear them.
i really liked isabelle gillies memoir. i read it once & then read it again aloud with drew. what did you think of it?
i loved that book! i've never found anybody else who has read it; so weird!
Pretty Girl,
I think the simple fact that you allow yourself to be as you are, without makeup, without the concern for what you are--or aren't wearing--makes you beautiful.
I wouldn't borrow a second wondering or worrying about what the love of your life will think of you, because you know what, he won't be in love with your marc jacobs shirt. He'll be in love with the heart that's underneath the championship logo.
And that will be that.
i'm a nanny for a living and you've just described my wardrobe-honestly i hardly ever give thought to what i look like-when you're busy changing diapers and developing little brains you don't have time to worry if the spit-up stain will come out of your new sweater...the man who marries me will love me for my practical attitude (at least that's what i tell myself!)
or just find a man who loves comfy clothes too :)
Any husband you'd lose to a woman, I don't care if she's in Marc Jacobs or Donna Karan or what-have-you -- is not the type of husband you'd want to have in the first place!
P.S.) You look adorable in the shirt, who cares what Stacey and Clinton might think. :)
I think there's more to betrayal than an outfit choice! I am about comfort and fashion, always trying to blend the two but sometimes yielding to one or the other.
There is nothing wrong with Danskos! When paired with the right outfit, they can be quite stylish.
I will defend Danskos to the death.
p.s. I'm with Anna's advice- find a husband who loves comfy clothes as much as you do!
ohh that's okay - i LIVE in my boyfriend's sweats... low point?
i have been so MIA from reading posts... I must catch up. I remember reading that line in "happens everyday" and thinking to myself... girl maybe you need to stop being so "comfortable"...ha
this post cracked me up meg fee. You're so cute in it though. I have always wanted to be the girl who can pull off a baseball cap, and you my friend, are that.
i LOVE the correlation to isabelle gillies line.
Audrey Hepburn in marc jacobs...
i had to look up what danskos were and i giggled.
right!
But remember Ms. Meg, that you are going to marry the man who LOVES you for who you are and ADORES you for how you look in faded grey pants and a yankees T. And the burgundy danskos will especially get him WILD for you. Don't forget it!
yes! strip and run away from your comfy clothes... never look back!
kidding :) i actually met jake in the height of my own comfy-clothes era. i got really tired of dressing to impress, living in a city with thousands of fabulously-dressed folks.
YOU, out of anyone, can pull of any outfit in the world!
i see nothing wrong with finding a man willing to buy you very very comfy marc jacobs clothing.
xoxo, meg. you're my fave. let's get married. i'll never leave you for someone who doesn't wear stretch pants. and we could shop for marc jacobs together.
hehe :)
oh no! i have a pair of plaid danskos that i looovvvveee!
so sorry stacey and clinton!
haha once a year (right around this time) i decide my wardrobe needs an overhaul and i need to start making an effort to be cute more often. maybe even wear makeup. i just spent an obscene about of money on modcloth yesterday in fact. but every year i wind up back in the jeans, nikes and ponytail. you just have to live in what makes you happy. you look beautiful in your $5 shirt!
Welcome to my life as a nanny. The day ends with boogers, grime, food, and goo all over me... so the desire to put on nice clothes has gone down considerably. Although, I think that if I were to wear Marc Jacobs I might feel prettier in the process.
i'll be honest. i had a similar thought this morning, when i was cleaning someone's toilet because i haven't found a job yet and i'm in school, and i just moved...and i need money for bills. i looked like complete shit, as i normally do unless i don't HAVE to, i feel like? i suppose we could drink wine together bemoaning the marc jacobs women, should they come in future. until then, i'd rather sleep more, and prepare less...?
i would HOPE that the man i marry wouldn't care about such things!
and you still look adorable!
you're so silly, of course it doesn't matter!
