the twist.

i think the boy who runs the corner store might just be in love with me.

he knows i love baseball and has determined (quite injudiciously) that 1. i am beautiful and 2. that these two qualities warrant his affection.

but the thing is--

my soda water (for this is what brings me to the corner store) always bubbles over explosively upon the twist of the cap.

and i can't determine if that is reason enough to marry him on the spot, or never return.

Tough call. I think you should go back a few more times, maybe buy some Fig Newtons and see what happens.

There is nothing so marvelous as knowing that a young man is in love with you...that is, if you also find him attractive (b/c if you don't, things don't feel so marvelous).

how adorable it this post?

When you take your first sip, do the bubbles make you scrunch your nose and squint your eyes and maybe even cough a little? And if so, do you like that feeling, or no?

I echo Sara's comment. I say buying some fig newtons from him would be a good next step.

(That picture of shoes is absolute perfection, btw.)

Hmmm...
Is it premature bubbling over? Could pose future problems.
Is he actually a boy? That may be a problem too...
Look for someone who thinks you are beautiful (and smart and wonderfully talented...) yet stays perfectly "bubbly" and appetizing to the end...

I have a similar story about the water man in Cairo. At the end of the day, our socio-economic and language barriers prevented any relationship beyond "How old are you? Bride?" (not meaning am I there on my honeymoon, but simply if I am married) and "No, I'm not a bride."

I think you should write a book.

Does he love Jesus? That is the must-know question I ask my friends when they first mention any boy.

Now, I wanted to also suggest you try on Clinique's "barely lipstick" in black honey for that stained look.

ask him to write you a poem and if he doesnt mention the way your eyes reflect your soda bubbles, dump him.

Go back, try it again, if you get the same results, maybe you should take it as the water trying to tell you that you should split a bottle over conversation. ;)

marry him. perfect situation. he works at the corner store and can hook you up with soda water. it's a match made in heaven.

i read this quickly the other day when you posted it and for some reason it has barely left my head since then. i find myself walking through washington square park trying to recall it verbatim. it's the kind of thing i should like to have printed inside a little card with a lovely, obscurely related picture on the front.
