in new york.

yesterday morning i woke up itching away.

it was 4 am.

and i had gone to bed wearing shoes.

all i wanted to do was take a hot shower.

and our hot water had been turned off.

this was a low point.

a very, very, low point.

but i made the decision to have a good day.

and then learned that sometimes even making the decision does not a good day ensure.

but last night?

well, last night i slept until the gentle ding ding ding of my alarm.

i then took a piping hot shower, drank in the autumnal air, and knew it would be a good day.

often, people here in manhattan want to know why i moved so far north. and this whole bed bug thing has increased the rapidity of those questions.

well, to them i say this:

bed bugs and all i wouldn't change a thing. because this morning when i went for my jog, this is what i saw:

and yes. this was in new york city.

If I couldn't take a fantastic, hot shower, well then I would be throwing myself off the Brooklyn Bridge, provided I was actually near it...

I love how you always manage to look on the bright side. And your view's gorgeous! A lot of people don't realize how different northern Manhattan is to down-and-midtown, and even uptown. Are you in Washington Heights?? I'm sure you've mentioned it before but I have a horrible time paying attention to detail.

Either way, here's to a great weekend full of gorgeous weather and nice, hot showers!

Whenever I see pictures of your new neighborhood, I'm so jealous. It really does look lovely.

Beautiful picture and great attitude. It's so true that your attitude often makes the day.

Good for you for even TRYING to have a good day with that. I probably would've used it as an excuse to be a bitch all day.

I don't know why this just popped into my head, but in the future, you are going to be so happy that you have this blog to look back on!

I live up in Washington Heights and every single morning I walk to the subway station and I fall in love even more with all of the trees and the rivers so close on both sides. I lurve it : ) good luck with the bed bugs, I hear they're not so much fun at all (I'm sure that's an understatement!).

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I hope your Sunday is full of birthday fun and that you are getting to do exactly what you want to do today...and not dealing with things like lost metrocards and bedbugs!

Meg, you are so brave to talk about the bed bugs (among many, many other things) on your blog. I faced an infestation, and a near mental breakdown, about a month ago when I finally figured out why I was getting about 50 "mosquito bites" a night. All of my clothes went through a hot wash and a hot dryer. Most of them no longer fit, which is another problem entirely...but I'm getting through it! I can sleep through the night soundly. Good luck to you--you're almost there!

Eek, you have bedbugs? How do you handle it? Is it as bad as all of the reports say?
