this morning i fell in love with this.
i found it on courtney's gorgeous blog, ka . lei . do. scope
and it was just what i needed.
lately, though, this has been getting me through the day:
i feel like there are just so many good female singer/songwriters out there right now. any one in particular that you love? you must tell me, i'm always in search of some new (to me) music!

Gemma Hayes. Amazing.
Scandinavian Music Group. It's a band, but Terhi Kokkonen is the main figure. She writes all their beautiful lyrics and sings lead vocals.
Missy Higgins and Brandi Carlile are current favorites. And while they aren't female, The Avett Brothers are keeping going.
that 'ghosts' song is beautiful, I haven't heard of her, I'll have to check out her stuff!
i don't think there are too many things that are quite as comforting or as sweet as a girl and her guitar
lisa mitchell!
i love that first one..
one of my favorite female singer/songwriters is Leona Naess.
"Heavy Like Sunday" is one of my all time favorites.
i love priscilla ahn and laura marling! i listen to a couple of their songs all the time. "ghosts" is definitely one of my favorites. :)
Belen ♥
ps i posted one for you...
i love priscilla ahn!!! she's so cute and that voice...
if there ever was a talent i wish i had, it's to sing. i'd sing every second of the day.
i love love love "where i stood" by missy higgins.
and Marisa- that song is beautiful!
Tristan Prettyman.
Great songs, thanks for sharing. Right now I'm digging Melody Gardot, a Fine Frenzy and Hope Sandoval.
I just found your blog and these two songs drew me in; so beautiful... am bookmarking both now. I also love Julia and Angus Stone "Mango Tree"
Holly Brook, Erin McCarley, and Joan Baez :) (okay the last one is not new at all, but if you consider yourself a Southern girl at all, you must listen to The Night they Drove Old Dixie Down)
you should check out the music video of laura marling´s ghost song.
there you have it:

I'm so glad you asked! There are so many singers mentioned in the commentaries that I've never known of. Here are some others, but I'm pretty sure you already listened to them. But, anyway: Vienna Teng, Sarah Slean, Katie Melua, Polly Paulusma, Sophie Zelmani. Also check out Cocoon, Calexico, Anthony and the Jonsons ;)
Oh man, I love Laura Marling!
Mirah is amazing! Also Jaymay and Deb Talan.
Sia... not exactly singer/songwriter, but she's awesome!
and of course Patty Griffin- classic.
Schuyler Fisk
Molly Jenson
Th Honey Trees - they are rather delightful!
Travis Oberg - i know he's not female, but he is aMAZing!
these are mostly local (to me) singer/songwriters (northern CA) but they are LOVELY!
I really like Amy Seeley....she is great and similar to Priscilla who I also love.
rosie thomas - her songs are the perfect mix of melancholy hopefulness. listen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XMxwyBBywc
also, i can't live without daisy may. she is fabulous michigan native - and her 'mother moon' album is amazing.
joanna newsome's voice is weird and funny but i love love love her songs.
but my heart really belongs to the ladies of the decades before me... patti smith, francoise hardy, joni mitchell, janis joplin, carly simon, nico, gladys knight, aretha franklin, billie holiday...
i highly recommend checking out francoise hardy in particular. lovely french singer of the 60s.
Ingrid Michaelson. I just saw her in concert and she was beautiful and hilarious and amazing all in one.
I love Ingrid Michaelson!
And checkout Clory Martin: http://www.myspace.com/clorymartin
