yes, they do.

two days ago i thanked regina for this reminder,

i've got a perfect body, but sometimes i forget.

and then taza reminded me (as taza tends to do) that the in full, the quote is:

i've got a perfect body, but sometimes i forget, i've got a perfect body 'cause my eyelashes catch my sweat, yes they do.

of course, i thought.

of course (my favorite response).

these bodies of ours do amazing things each and every day. so...this is my charge to you:

why is your body perfect?

mine?

well.

because my feet get me from one end of the tunnel to the next.

and about a million other reasons. but that's the one i'll give.

so now you.

i want to know.

and then i want to make a list.

and then we'll have begun the revolution without even realizing it.

what are you waiting for--why are you still reading this?

go.

ps: according to glamour magazine,
animal prints are making a
comeback (when did they ever
go away?) and so i've decided
to wear my zebra shoes
all the time, since i think i'm finally
coming back to myself.
yes, i am.

My heart... Because I can still love even after being hurt so badly. It is more resilient than I ever knew.

Wonderful idea, Meg.

My clavicle ... because who said a girl needs cleavage?

Ooo...I love those zebra shoes! I love my body because it carried a child and allowed me to give birth. And that was a miracle. Oh, and I love my fingers because they wipe away tears...mine and those from the people I love.

I adore your zebra shoes. I thought of 2 things... 1- my body is perfect because it has the ability to heal itself. 2- my ears...give me the ability to hear music, and many other wonderful things. :)

love the shoes...

my knees help make my body perfect. they help me run-- to things, from things... they tell stories. each bruise&scar tells MY story.
they (quite literally) lift me up after i've fallen.

sometimes doing the literal helps to complete the metaphorical.

Thank you for this!! I love my body- especially right now- as it changes and grows to accomodate the baby inside.. it is such a unique feeling and one I feel so blessed to experience!

Every time I look at my belly and see a layer of fat...still...I think of my little baby that I had 6 months ago...and then I love it! I placed him for adoption and miss him like crazy, but my tummy reminds me of the miracle that he is! Such a miracle! Also- my hands- HUGE- but so capable!

Lovely post!! Oh my goodness who said animal print was ever out? I'll rock leopard print (brown and black not the orange kind)everyday of the week!!
I love my eyelashes cause they are long and flirty and i'll bat them to get my way:0)
Also my skinny feet since they allowed me to do ballet for 10 years and look really pretty with some pink polish!

I have a perfect body because my back supports all parts of me... even my hopes and dreams.

my body is perfect because it can create another human being. childbirth is a miracle, and someday i get to be a part of it. i can't think of anything more beautiful.

Laura C said...

My body is perfect because even when my mind and my heart don't think I can go further, it finds the strength to just...endure.

And because it lets me shake my hips like nobody's business. :)

Ivy Morgan said...

I'm so happy for you :)

sheila said...

Good idea. I need to do this everyday in the mirror.

I have such a typical answer, but, i love my body for the purpose I fulfill as a mother. To carry another human being in a womb is a miracle itself {not to mention the most beautiful and radiant feeling you have while pregnant- which is what I think all woman are suppose to feel all the time}. Then to have the strength and power to deliver is another thing... but in the end its the humility, patience, and love that you grow and learn from beginning to end of your child's life.
I also thank my eyes for the beauty of sight.

p.s. your feet are very lucky to sport those hot open toed shoes too.

I'm also loving those shoes! I'm not big on all animal prints but zebra shoes are fab :)

I've just got back from yoga - I'm pretty new to it but I'm already amazed at what my body can do. It's nice to find out that you're stretchier than you thought you were!

christine said...

Mine is perfect because I found out today, that somehow, amazingly I don't have a blood clot in my upper thigh and they really thought I did.

Also, because I use it, all of it, to make music to help others smile a bit.

I love it!

My body is perfect because it grows wax in order to keep my ears clean. isn't that weird and incredible?

and also because it's self heating . . . and cooling. built in furnace and a/c via blood and sweat.

I also marvel at all the things my body does without any effort on my part. breathing for example. and hiccups, and sneezing.

my hands. to do things for myself, but even more, do things for others. there is a beautiful song that is about Christ, and some of the lyrics include, "His hands would serve his whole life through, showing men what hands might do, giving, ever giving endlessly.." beautiful.

and lovely post meg fee. you are so inspiring.

I love your shoes! Such a cute photo. I love my body because it has carried me across streets, state lines, oceans, and continents. It has survived car crashes, bad falls, illness, and a broken heart. And yet, I am still here :)

(i just recently added this regina quote to my own blog, it is truly inspired.)

i've got a perfect body,

because my hands can create: gifts for those i love and treasures for my surroundings.

I'll geek out for a second and say from my graduate studies...I'm amazed that our bodies can get all the necessary motions together to create speech in the first place, let alone to do it as fluently, seamlessly, and emotionally as we do.

Truly amazing. (And no wonder there are speech disorders).

second: those shoes rock!

third: i love this post and reading everyone's responses. [it inspires me - so thank you.]

fourth: I think my body is perfect because of how confident I feel in my own skin - and loving every new little wrinkle. ;)

This post is brilliant, Meg.

Here's my little contribution:

My body is perfect because my heart keeps the passion pumping - it keeps me going.

Because my fingernails are always apt for chewing away the aggravation.

Because my lips can twitch up into a smile at the recognition of subtle beauty.

my eyes: they help me see the beauty in others, they make me unique because of their unusual color, they encompass who i am, the blue- soft and kind and a splash of yellow/green- for my feistiness and drive, and best of all they make me thankful for my dad who is no longer with me, he was the one that gave me my big blue eyes!

"I'm coming back to myself"

that's so beautiful

as are your zebra shoes!

my body is perfect because it's mine. it's me. i look out at the world through it. my body and my spirit make my soul.

my body is prefect because it tells me what i need. it says "i need sleep!" or "i need food!" or "i need exercise!" or "i need rest!" and because my body tells my spirit these things, i can take care of my soul.

my body is prefect because it brings me joy. the joy of the wind through my hair on a summer night. the joy of a beautiful day. the joy of a juicy peach or a tender kiss on my neck.

siovhan said...

My body is perfect because it is me. It is mine. No one else can ever replicate exactly what I am. No amount of surgery or hair product could make them me. Each freckle, each scar, each crooked dimple, each pound on my body--it's me. And no one else gets to experience the joy that is being me.

Meg! What a beautiful initiative. You're causing a revolution :) look at all these beautiful women appreciating themselves...that's not something you see too often. Congratulations!

My body? It's perfect because of so many reasons!

My hair probably most of all because it keeps my cold ears warm in these crazy winters. {I mean, as well as taking the acting role of a humidity gauge in the summer AND being an undeniably terrific addition at any concert or dance party}.

camille said...

my eyes because they allow me to cry for myself and for the pains of others.

my hands because, after the crying, i can hold onto what strengthens me.

thanks for this amazing idea!

my body is perfect because it allows me to relish in the simplistic beauty of the summertime-- to feel the sand between my toes, to take in the scent of fresh cut grass and hamburgers grilling, to relax in the evening's cool breeze, to wake up to that brilliant summer sunshine-- and smile.
