longing for fall.

I am child of Fall, born to October--a hopeless devotee of the month. I sometimes wonder if my attachment to the season begins and ends with this alone. But its more than that--the colors, the cooling, sweetening air, the promise of all that's just to come.

And this summer has been sticky and hot. I can barely open the door to leave the apartment when the need arises--thank you humidity and expansion--and after my first coned bill I refuse to turn on my small air conditioner (in fact I'd like to remove it from the window all together because it's blocking my view). Between the sweating that happens on-the-way-to or waiting-for the subway I feel cleansed and purged and ready to welcome the next seasonal chapter.

I don't mean to wish away Summer, I really don't. I just can't help dream of fall. So indulge me, won't you?

I've never been the girl that wants to strip down for summer. the layers--tights and scarves and jackets and boots--of Fall hold much more sway, and that's part of the pull right now, for sure.

Here's to a happy Monday! And surviving this mid-August week, wherever we might be (unless of course you're in the Southern Hemisphere in which case that's a whole different discussion--and how exciting that Spring is just around the bend! {i am a big fan of Spring!}).

I sort of hate spring, but damn if I don't love me some fall. Could anyone dislike fall? I'm definitely in it for the boots.

You've taken the blog post right out of my mind! In the nicest possible way! I'm a fellow Autumn child and although we haven't had the sticky warmth of summer in full force here in England I am tired of humid days. Autumn hits and I feel energised, inspired and also excited somehow, I long for the turning leaves and blustery afternoons :-)

This post is my life. Fall is my favourite season for every reason! Glad there are others who feel the same way.

ME TOO. I love fall and I feel like I'm looking forward to it now more than I have in years.

I'm a child of the fall too. Waiting patiently for the days to come. (I can see the light already starting to change, and it's lovely...)

I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking this way! Fall is just so much more handsome than Summer. We're ready for you, Fall.

I'm a November baby and I adore Autumn. I'm seriously counting down the days until I can wear sweaters/tights/boots etc. Oh, and the fact that baby boy arrives mid November might be part of the count down too! :)

Man.. now I just feel hot and sweaty. Freaking August.

I am craving fall. The wait is painful, and all of the new fall lines in every store I walk into does not help.

Oh I am so with you. And from the 114-degree weather of Phoenix, I fully understand the hatred of the outdoors these days and the pining for layers and boots and such. This morning, though, I discovered pumpkin spice bread during my morning Starbucks run. And that is the best hint of autumn coming that I could possibly want.

all i want today is to take that first deep breath of biting November air. i love that moment of the year so much!

I'm so with you Meg. I'm an October baby too, and Fall is definitely my favorite season. Layering chic styles, plenty of crisp sunny days, and the beautiful foliage, I'm ready for all of it!

Agreed. I think people born in October, like ourselves, have an extra special love for it and all it brings. Summer in Atlanta is far from enjoyable and I'll be more than happy to wave goodbye. Bring on the boots and scarves!

Thought I was the only one. I bitch all winter about how much I wish it was warm. Now that it's steamy and I've soaked up all the sun I really care too, I'm longing to see my breath again, and take baths and light fires and wish everyone I see a happy holiday... and try to control my family... on second thought, summer can stay right where it its.

Ugh, you're not kidding. DC is one slow-moving sweaty beast these days.

Darling...when I saw the blog title I nearly refused to read it! I am a southern hemisphere summer girl born in March (summer in Cape Town, winter in Toronto) and I love love love the summer. I languished today on Long Island - and while there, heard of the SECOND family tragedy in mere weeks. It's one of THOSE kind of summers.
Fall can't come soon enough.

As a fellow October baby also, I couldn't agree with you more! Now I just wished I lived in a city/state where fall actually felt (and looked) like a real season. Here in the desert we have but only 2 seasons, well, temperatures actually, hotter and semi cold. I will live vicariously through your blog...cannot wait for "My New York" the fall edition!

Hey, I was born in October too!

I adore the fall! It is my favorite for all the reasons you shared. I'm a June baby, so you'd think I'd love summer. Yeah, not so much. And I completely understand what you mean about NYC. I finally returned to Brooklyn for a visit last week and I swear the city is ten times hotter than my area in PA. But I loved it just the same.

I feel ya! Fall and winter are my favorites for many reasons: the fashion, the hot drinks, among other things.

There are things I love about summer, but I do prefer fall. For me, it's the perfect balance between hot and cold, between too little and too many layers. It's also got to do with aesthetics and how pretty everything looks in the fall.
