(mis)adventures in dating.
me: should i put an emoticon in this text?
natalie: no.
me: why not?
natalie: because he's not an actor.
me: oh.
(silence)
but he put an emoticon in one of his texts.
natalie: oh, should be fine then.
i'm finally coming round to emoticons, but don't get me started on emojicons....

haha, emojicons....
europeans (well, the ones i've encountered in my day) LOVE emoticons. it was actually an adjustment at first because male co-workers would include them in emails and texts and i was mortified!! until someone explained to me, "no, that's totally normal here; not flirty".
ahahahahah! we needed a hidden camera on sleepover night.
I'm not going to lie... I had to look up what a emojicon was!
hahaha hilarious conversation!
You know what solves it is just calling? Or heytell/voxing (walkie talkie for your phone). Then instead of the smiley face to represent humor or sarcasm, you can actually just hear your voice.
But yes, this is a tough tough question!
hah - i love this! always wonder what our grandparents would think...
Haha I am not sure how I feel about emoticons either! But I will tell you - I was very unsure about the online dating thing but tried it and ended up meeting my boyfriend who an incredibly kind and fun guy! I am wishing you will find a man worthy of your intellect and heart, meg!!
Haha this is awesome! I could totally imagine myself having a similar conversation with one of my friends! :)
i love this and I am never sure about emotions either--I have started using them in emails and blog comments because otherwise i worry people won't get the fact I am joking, maybe that is just something I worry about.
Are emoticons really that frowned on? I use them all the time, although not usually w/ a guy I'm trying to date. Lol. I personally think it's a great way to get an emotion across on an emotion-less medium like the internet.
