bright eyes

i spent much of this morning trying to describe my feelings about what's happening in london. but there aren't enough words.

biright eyes played towards the end of day one at lollapalooza. i was standing way at the back. not paying too much attention. i had instagram out, was people watching and daydreaming. and then conor played what follows. and of all the songs i heard over the course of the three days--of all the music--it's the one i can't get out of my head. the one i found most halting and beautiful--with the greatest meaning.

the progression is simple and stunning.

and on this tuesday morning, with my heavy boots, it seems particularly meaningful.

The Uk is a very sad place to be today. But your thoughts are welcomed and that song has long been one of my favourites, so thank you for this post, Meg.

Oh Meg. We are music soul mates. I owe you a lifetime supply of hugs for introducing me to Noah & The Whale. :)

In other news..."I dreamed you were carried away on the crest of a wave, baby don't go away. Come here." Makes me teary-eyed every time. As always, appreciating your tender-heartedness. Thoughts and prayers sent to London today.

this is one of my favorite bright eyes songs. it always hits my heart and has a way of making things calm down. he's coming to play for free at the twilight concert series and i really, REALLY hope he breaks out this baby.

Love bright eyes! Did you read the book extremely loud and incredibly close? Heavy boots, indeed.

These riots have affected maybe at most 10% of London.. Maybe. It doesn't make it palatable for us Londoners but we can carry on with our lives safely. These riots are about something deeper than cuts and recession. it's about total disenfranchisement of a whole section of society. a lack of respect both ways, a break down of family, values and boundaries. a lack of competition and strong engagement in school, a real missing of consequences. it's a tantrum on an epic scale. kids need boundaries to feel safe, held and connected. Largely the problem lies with families and the perpetrators. It's all to easy to blame others or "society" when what is needed is a change of attitude. There is a clear impression that "they" care not about politics, notions of community etc and are in fact deeply immersed in an infantile culture fascinated with superficial displays of gratuitous wealth, petty Hollywoodesque gang violence and notoriety.... Haven't seen anyone stealing books!
