these were the words i took away after seeing the final installment of the harry potter journey

words are, in my not so humble opinion,
our most inexhaustible source of magic.

harry potter and the deathly hallows

dear j. k. rowling,

thank you for illuminating the world. and showing us we already have all the tools to change it.

sincerely,

your faithful reader--one whose only act of schoolgirl rebellion was to sit in the back of eighth-grade american history with the sorcerer's stone on her lap, just below her desk, hoping no one would catch her

Meg,
I once got caught in Math class in middle school with Sorcer's Stone tucked in my text book.

Might be why I am hopelessly lost when it comes to "factoring fractions" ... and why I love the printed word.

Harry Potter > math

I never, ever jumped on the Potter bandwagon--I just didn't like it--didn't get it--didn't see it as, technically, very good writing. (I am going to be hated for that comment, aren't I?) But what I have appreciated throughout the entire series is how it made a GENERATION read. That--that right there, is its magic. And despite my otherwise apathetic nature towards it, it really, truly was those lines that stopped me in the film. And I kind of hoped when I saw your teasing lines on Twitter that these were the very words you meant, too.

Well said, Meg. I fully support reading HP at any time. Love your personal story of sneaking it in 8th grade :)

I believe I got caught doing the very same thing in almost all of my classes at one point in time. Well except for history, but I'm a history nerd.

That was one of my favorite lines as well :)

Ugh reading this post makes me want to cry all over again. I've just sort of moved on from the realization that its all over. Although I like what she said at the England premier of the movies... something to the effect that hogwarts will always be there for everyone. I like to think of it that way. My favorite part of the stories is the underlying theme of love and how important it is in our lives whether it be friends, family or relationships.

shit meg, that stone sounds like it took over your mind and forced you to push the boundaries of acceptable behaviour...

I laughed at Sam's comment....because I was caught reading a book in math class too. I would like to say that is why I entirely stink at math, but I don't think it will fly haha.

it's true. j.k. is wonderful and the world she created is incredible. i can't get over it. and that was me today. a 21 year old sitting in the back of her history of theatre class reading the sorcerer's stone wishing (again) for her hogwarts letter to come.

I was the same girl. I owe some grand memories to the Potter series. Summer nights having my mom read to us. I love Harry Potter.

This is wonderful!
I've been meaning to catch the story of her writing the books on Lifetime, I've heard it's really good.

She wrote the last chapter of the final book before the first book was even finished!!

JK Rowling's words certainly are magical. And profitable. But seriously, what a beautiful statement! I want to read all the books again right now.

I secretly read in class too! While everyone else was sneaking off campus or drinking in the bathrooms, the one 'rebellious' thing I did was put novels in my textbooks and read while the teacher lectured. yeah I was cool... Glad to hear I wasn't the only one!

I did something between a sigh and a gasp at that moment. Wasn't it beautiful? It was; it was so very beautiful.

The most worthy rebellious act I have ever heard of.
