this is for anyone who thinks my apartment is always pristine.

holy moly, a mess

turns out after a week and a half of not feeling well this is what i get.

nyc living is hard enough that i do try to keep my room extremely organized, but that's because if you could open up my mind you'd find it looks suspiciously similar to this. external order helps to balance the mish-mosh that is my mind.

i just wanted to share because i find this image a bit hilarious. and because my momma's now in town--i gotta get my but out of bed and clean up.

happy sunday friends.

I wrote a post similar to this a while ago where I showed my kitchen looking like a disaster zone. Blog world is so full of picture perfect images that it can almost leave you feeling a little insecure about your own life. Thanks for the reality check :-)

i once said that if a burglar broke into my house, he'd turn right around and leave, thinking it had just been burglarized. i daresay you could say the same.

Lol. Oh I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets a little messy now and then! There's nothing like impending company coming over to force you to clean it up either, is there? ;P

Is it horrible that this strangely makes me feel better about the state of disarray at my apartment? I'm embarrassed of all the piles of mail, clothes, books, dishes, etc. strewn about. And like you, I gotta get in gear ASAP, cause Micaela arrives on Tuesday!

It's nice to know I'm not the only human one around - my place has been a bit messy too lately!

Funny how you mention the messiness reflecting what's in your head. There's a great Kurt Vonnegut story about how a reporter walked into his office and remarked on the mess - how could he possibly work amongst it? Vonnegut responded along the lines of: "You think it's messy in here? You should see what's in my head" while pointing to it. I've always loved this story!

Enjoy time with your mom!

Hehe this is funny, my room looked like this last week when I was clearing out my wardrobe. My boyfriend went for a 30 min nap and he awoke to find the room looking like a bomb had hit it = it always looks worse before it looks better!!

i love this!
because i look around my bedroom and it looks exactly the same.
I moved into an apartment 2 months ago thinking that it would just be a stop over, and seeing as i'm still planning on moving i never quite unpacked, so nothing has a 'place' anywhere it should go, it just goes where it or i feel like putting it at the time.

but if my mother were coming i would be pretending that i never live like this....because she so knows that i do.....

Bahaha oh Meg, I don't think I've ever commented on your blog posts (I like to lurk silently) but I couldn't resist on this one.

This is lovely, and I so relate. The other night I looked at my apartment and saw something much like this picture, and I had to have a glass of wine and put a Van Morrison record on before I could start cleaning. And then the wine and music made me sleepy, so I didn't make much progress...but it certainly made the task feel a little more romantic.
