half-naked men, cigars, and new york city: a teaser, if you will.

today, you can find me here...

talking about the story of my life. to-date. sort of. kind of.

i'm such a fan of jenni and her gorgeous corner of the internet
and was so honored when she asked me to be one of seven bloggers
to guest post while she's away in south america.

check it out, if you like. and let me know what you think...

If there was a ever a more perfect demonstration on HOW to write it was this:

and then there's here: 181st street. in a small corner apartment--my own little castle in the sky--a corner apartment abutting the hudson and nestled against the train tracks. and i can feel this corner apartment-- this corner of manhattan working on me, pushing me past this cesura in the story. this moment between, this hanging breath in which all is possible and all is unknown. i write this now in the cafe down the street and i, more than anyone, wonder what's next--when the plot twist will arise, when new characters will be introduced, when there will be some sort of resolution.

Because my, that is what beauty is. I don't know how you do it---how you be so beautiful inside and out and possess such wonderful, wonderful talent to boot, but you do it. You treat me everyday I read your blog---but more than that (and oh, how I have said it before) you teach me. x

I already left this comment on Jenni's blog, but I must say you have exquisite writing. Your capability to tell a story is amazing. I virtually bow down to you.

So fun to read your NY story, and wonderful writing as always. And a crazy coincidence- I actually wrote and sent my own NY story for a guest post that will be up in the next couple weeks over at A Sorta Fairytale. It was really fun to think back to my move to the city and where it has taken me.

Great guest post!

iiiiii'll tell you what i think. i think you are going to be a tough act to follow for the next 6 of these guest posters.

i also think our high school selves would have been such good friends, as they seem to be quite similar.

but i also think that about our 2011 selves.

I've never seen Jenni's blog before! It's amazing! I loved your story. You have a great way with words.

My favorite part was: "and the thing is, i don't know. i just don't know. but i do know i'm better for all this. better for the unknown. better for the sadness. better for the bliss. better, for new york. "
Because no matter how hard the things we go through are, we are better people for them in the end.

Hello! Visiting you today from Jenni's blog. I think she and I have similar tastes for the types of blogs we read, so I am happy you guest-posted so that I could find your little place here on the web!

Like many who have commented here and on Jenni's blog, you write beautifully. I am looking forward to reading through your archives and learning more about you!

Aloha,
Angie

Thoroughly enjoyed your words over on Jenni's blog. As I said over there (I'm pointing to Jenni's blog) it makes me want to give NY another shot. I went once and it wasn't the best experience. Granted I know nothing beyond the typical spots, but all that to say, you painted a very pretty picture, if you will, of it. =) ...minus the 1/2 naked man of course. haha

With all of the wonderful stories I have read here for the past 2 years, I was curious how you would share the "story of your life" in one blog post.

It was simple, which I like. And made me want more, which I also like. But I like your writing the most when you stop one moment in time and shower us in detail. That's my favorite.

i'm so glad I found your blog through Jenni's. I just had an afternoon of 'life flashing before my eyes'... 'what the heck do i do next?'... kind of questions going through my head. this little story softened the blow a little bit: perhaps i'm poised, for what comes next.
thank you for that.
