somehow, someway i got myself on some list. and this list yielded an invitation to a random house reader's circle tea.
and because i'm trying to adopt a philosophy of why not? i went.
despite the fact that i didn't know anyone, despite the fact that upon entering the elevator i was asked if i was a blogger and if i was did i have a card (i did not), despite the fact that fear usually wins out...
i went.
and it was swank.
grapefruit mimosas.
a tote to fill with books. (free books!).
a speech given by lisa see.
swank! i say.
this does remind me, however, i have yet to announce a book club date for bossypants.
june 4 (trying something new with a saturday): 2:30 pm. same location as our last meeting (if you've forgotten or didn't attend the last go round send me an email at wilybrunette@yahoo.com).
as always, we welcome new readers, new attendees, and encourage boyfriends and husbands alike!

i would love to be a part of a book club!! this looks amazing.
I...am...SO...jealous!
Love books!
My heart just exploded at the thought of FREE BOOKS and a swanky tea.
those bookshelves look glorious! look at you, invited to some fancy event with mimosas and books as party favors. lucky girl.
oh my lordy! this makes me envious i don't live in nyc. i'd give my left arm to spend an afternoon chatting about tina fey. as if i don't do that enough.
FREE BOOKS?!?!?! if i ever make it to new york, can you please promise to try and find a way to get me on the swanky list so i might be able to participate is such fanciness? bossypants was amazing. if only i lived closer so that i might be in this lovely book club.
I wish your club had a live/online version hehe
Oh my gosh I am so jealous! I would love to go to an event like that! What books did you get?
that is SO neat!! I'm glad you got to go. And re: the blogger business card thingee: I won 50 custom calling cards in a giveaway a while back, so I made them my blogging and freelance cards. Makes me feel legit. You should get some too! ;)
(I got mine from pixel impress on Etsy)
What a great list to make it on! So cool...free books {sigh}
Oh, this is exciting. So glad you conquered your nervousness---I am a little bit jealous of such an endeavour!
oh my goodness! how brilliant! so happy you went.
I totally just started following your blog -- it's hilarious. what is this about a book club?? Can you give more info?! Did you start it?

how do i join this swank book club you have :)
this is better than any book club i've ever been in :-) the bookworm in me would have frolicked in all this awesomeness!
Meg! This looks like a perfect little bit of serendipity. Somewhere you did something right ... and ended up right where you needed to be! I can't imagine many other girls who would be more perfect for a Random House reading.
OOOh who doesn't love being invited to swank outings with swag?!?! Jealous! And So So sad to be out of town for Bossypants. Each bookclub there always seems to be something, that's always how life is, but someday!
I agree with Ana! I wish there was an online way to tap into your bookclub! I live in DC and love to read and love your blog and wish I could be a part of the bookclub somehow.
And good for you, girl, for having such a great attitude about life... why not?! love love love it!
this reminds me of all the embassy parties i went to vienna. since i was usually hanging out alone - or with another intern - feeling out of place but so giddy at the same time.
so - should i fly to nyc for this book club thing?
FREE books!
What a life you live...what a life!
That table covered with books makes me think of one of those supermarket sweeps where you have 60 seconds to dump everything you want into your cart. At least, that's what I would have done if I'd been there.
I like/admire your "why not?" attitude. And I loved BossyPants, though sadly I can't make the June 4th date. But I'll (hopefully) see you's for the next round of book-clubbing!
It looks like a dream! How fun!
what did lisa see talk about???
(was she on a 'juliet' style tour of self promotion?)
Awesome! So glad you went (FREE books!!!)...I've been trying to push myself out of my comfort zone this year as well. It's been hard, but so worth it.
Wow, how awesome! Glad you went. :)
Also, I so wish I could belong to your book club. Loved Bossy Pants.
Heaven on Earth! How do you get to be on this magical list?! Good for you for trying something new...and getting free books out of the deal!
My jaw just dropped...Lisa See and free Random House books? You lucky woman, you! How terrific!
Seriously jealous! The event sounds like a blast!
Whaaaat!? That's so cool!
Gahhh I'm always hoping for some freak accident to allow me to be invited to some private party/event/thing...with swag of course! Sounds awesome! :o)
I love that your why not attitude paid off. Sounds fantastic.
Bossypants bookclub!?! I need to come to New York.
Jealous? Me? Why--yes, yes, I am.
That sounds splendid and quite swanky.
I am so very jealous of this! I want to gooo. My goodness. I'm going to write a little review on what I thought about Bossypants. (I loved it) I can't wait to know about the next book!
did you snatch up some good books!? let us know!
wowwow and an extra wow!
Free books!? That is the greatest gathering ever!
a tote to fill with FREE BOOKS?!
this has me very jealous.
I just finished Bossypants and I laughed all the way through it. Great choice!
Oh wow that sounds so cool! Kudos to you for going to something kind of out of your comfort zone. And hey, you got free books out of the deal!! Sweet. :)
That's so incredibly amazing! Just say free books and you know it's a good time.
Is the book club still running? I just moved to New York (UWS) from London and would really love to join. Thanks!
