dear husband-to-be,
here's the thing: i want the cake smash.
dear God in heaven above, i want the cake smash.
i simply don't understand why it's no longer popular--why not everyone would opt for this little slice of whimsy.
because if you can't have a food fight on the day you pledge your life to someone, well then... what's the point?
love, love,
yours with a sugar tooth and cherry on top
(ps: my parent's did it and they've had a pretty good run. plus, i'm gonna need my own picture like this).

Love that you love this tradition so much!
Over the weekend I saw a couple get ready to do the cake smash and then immediately turn to the best man and maid of honor and smash the cake in their faces. It was spectacular.
I love the cake smash. I didn't know it was no longer popular. Are brides too serious now-a-days?
Oh wow do I love this. And the cake smash. (It's crucial.) And that photo. And parents who teach us what it means not to settle.
Just not on the dress! : )
xo,
Sarah
Is it wrong that I've never heard of a cake smash before? Love the idea though! And what a beautiful photograph. I am always so fond of how much marriage means to you. I like seeing that.
I think this is a most excellent tradition. :) That is a gorgeous picture as well. Love everything about this little post!
the cake smash is a must.
I love your husband-to-be posts!
Though I somehow never liked the idea for a cake smash. We were never allowed to do it, never wanted to for birthdays the cake was always homemade so no wasting, it was too yummy.
you are sooo your daddy's girl meg!! your parents are too cute in that picture :) but i have to say i am adverse to the cake smash...especially post-planning my wedding and knowing the $$$ spent for my hair and make-up stylist...to ruin it all with cake, i can't stomach it! but perhaps i'm a bit more a primadonna eh? to each their own! :)
p.s. i like your recent posts on writing and wanted you to know that i KNOW you will be a published author one day and you are going to bless people with your writing.
We did the cake smash... I've never regretted it. ;)
i've never really given the cake smash much thought before. hmmmm... i shall ponder this further.
also, you look like your dad. i like it.
such a lovely photo of your parents :)
i'm all for the smash! nothing says i love you better than a little roughhousing right?
are those your parents? they are glowing with happiness! i love your mom's crown of sorts!
ohmyGosh, the look on their face is priceless. they're so happy they're glowing. cuteness overload :)
I LOVE your parents wedding pics! I kinda miss the picture you had when you first started blogging. The one with your mom throwing the bouquet. Such a magical picture!!!! And knowing you, I'm sure a very magical mother!
I am a wedding photographer and I adore the cake smash. I hate when people are too prissy to get dirty and have fun..
life is too short
i think the cake smash is one of my favorite moments of a wedding to photograph. i hate it when people are too stuffy to do it.
LOVE it! Here's to the cake smash!
Sometimes I still miss your old banner with that awesome photo of your mom on her wedding day :)
i'm probably going to borrow your mom's wedding dress when i get married, okay?
thanks.
Glad to see all sorts chiming in...as a wedding photographer, the cake smash seemed to be a cute, lighthearted moment. Then I realized that all the couples I'd photographed who "cake-smashed" had split up. Overwhelmingly, within a year. Sometimes they had separated by the time the proofs were ready (this was in the days of film photography)!
My co-worker and I finally came to the conclusion that the cake smash must be as close as you can get to a mini passive-aggressive punch in the mouth. WITH CAKE.
However you choose, best of luck to you! I'm so glad your lovely parents have bucked the trend I witnessed.
I agree, it's so adorable! I think it's important for a couple to mess around like that. It makes me sad whenever I watch wedding shows and the girl's always like, "You BETTER not smash the cake in my face."
I'm totally with you. The cake smash is awesome, and of all the days to get delicious food all over your face, right? A marriage is worth celebrating in every way possible. :)
I love this tradition so much, too! However, my mom hates it, cringes at weddings when they do it. She says things like, "How disrespectful!" It's funny what Kitty said, because my mom, too, says, "Divorce for them!" haha I think, for her sake, we will have to do our cake smashing in private!
hehe.....
this reminded me of my friends wedding last year....
http://the-childlike-empress.blogspot.com/2010/04/ps-let-them-eat-cake.html
and the episode of how i met your mother, at the wedding where they were going to avoid any 'wedding cliches' and then give into them all....
p.s.
i love cake
Yup. I will definitely be smashing the cake as far up my future wife's nose as possible. Definitely going for the smoosh. :)
