getting into the holiday spirit.

sometimes i forget that new york is place people come from around the world to photograph.
i see it through eyes that have seen it for seven years.
and so i cease to see.
until i remind myself to look up and around.

this year, since i'll be staying in the city, i'm making a concerted effort to celebrate the transformation of the island in this month of december and to allow myself to be swept up and away by the holiday spirit.

ps: that picture of me was taken just before i headed off to an ugly christmas-sweater party. strangely enough, my parents were off to an ugly christmas-sweater party themselves--i on the upper west side, they somewhere in the houston metropolis. funny, huh?

ugly sweater? but you look SO cute! :)

hehe - p.s. is that your apartment? i'm loving the vintage vibe, did you find the table and suitcases on a random hunt? i'm actually looking for a similar table and would love to hear where it was unearthed!

I hate to say it but that sweater is anything but ugly and you look adorable in it! So funny! I'm heading to one this coming Friday and I haven't found my gem yet . . . gonna scour the local Goodwills for some particularly heinous Christmas knit abominations!

oh dear, i was thinking what a nice christmas jumper, and then i read that you were wearing it an ugly sweater party and thought oh my goodness i must have really bad taste, but having just read a few of your comments i relieved to see that some others have liked to it, so maybe my taste isnt quite so bad after all....phew...

to all the lovely ladies: i kind think the sweater is cute too, but i could go either way and i was in a pinch. it's currently being sold at H & M for like 35 bucks and the flannel shirt is from Old Navy--it was on sale for like 20 bucks.

is it bad that i actually really lurve your sweater?!?!

and has anyone ever told you that you look like the stunning regina spektor?! you have her essence as well, methinks :)

sigh, one day i will have a brooklyn christmas in a cosy, little studio apartment. and a cat. that's a given.

and i totally relate to you on not seeing the beauty of your town, i live in orlando and work at the theme parks here and it's so odd for me to realize the magic of where i live somedays!

you are spot on with the familiarity thing....ever realised something has changed only to be told that it changed weeks/months ago??

claire, i LOVE this photo of you--- ugly sweater be damned- you made it look smashing! ;) your pose and paired with the plaid and your smile-- I LOVE IT! seriously. i am also loving the vintage suitcases in the background.

my favorite christmas quote: "Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful." -Norman Vincent Peale

if i had to put photos with that quote, your city would be it.

Hey, I liked that sweater!! What was funny, was that I was looking at your NY picture (the one of the houses) and was thinking how nice it would be to visity NT and just wander amon the streets admiring (and photographing) all the pretty old buildings :) Best wishes from Norway

Being a native midwesterner, I never thought I'd find beauty in the city at the holidays. Not so! I have been to NYC the last few years in December and it quickly changes my mind! Great photos...and that sweater is totally envy-worthy ;) have a great week! xo

I really do like that origami tree.

And I'm not sure what this says about me, but I liked your sweater.

I guess it's back to watching reruns of TLC's "What Not To Wear."

Clinton and Stacy would be so disappointed.
