sometimes i forget that new york is place people come from around the world to photograph.
i see it through eyes that have seen it for seven years.
and so i cease to see.
until i remind myself to look up and around.
this year, since i'll be staying in the city, i'm making a concerted effort to celebrate the transformation of the island in this month of december and to allow myself to be swept up and away by the holiday spirit.
ps: that picture of me was taken just before i headed off to an ugly christmas-sweater party. strangely enough, my parents were off to an ugly christmas-sweater party themselves--i on the upper west side, they somewhere in the houston metropolis. funny, huh?

xmas in the city is magical! i think that the ugly sweater idea is genius. i want to have an ugly sweater party, too!
by the way, i'm a new follower and just wanted to let you know how much i enjoy your blog. looking forward to more posts!
Lol. I was thinking how cute your sweater looked on you! I hope you get to experience the fullness of the holiday on a new level this year. xx
That sweater is nowhere near ugly on you! It actually looks really cute! haha
you look lovely!
love all the photos - i dream of one day seeing new york at christmas time - it all seems quite magical! :)
ugly sweater? but you look SO cute! :)
hehe - p.s. is that your apartment? i'm loving the vintage vibe, did you find the table and suitcases on a random hunt? i'm actually looking for a similar table and would love to hear where it was unearthed!
you are precious - and i don't mean that in a fragile, porcelain way.
adorable. and the sweater works for you!
Sorry, but this is not an ugly sweater, it rocks! Hope you have a great christmas time in new york, i imagine it very wintery and romantic from afar ;-)
I so want a Christmas jumper this year - I've never had one! It's my must have!

You just made the ugly sweater look so chic.
P.S. I'm feeling the Christmas spirit.
haha, um, that christmas sweater is so NOT ugly! you look adorable. i have never been to the city & i want to go more & more after reading your blog!
yes yes. please enjoy nyc this christmas. I've been dying to see the city in winter time since I was a little girl!
Love the ugly sweater!
Everything looks so magical! And you are so beautiful!!
I hate to say it but that sweater is anything but ugly and you look adorable in it! So funny! I'm heading to one this coming Friday and I haven't found my gem yet . . . gonna scour the local Goodwills for some particularly heinous Christmas knit abominations!
i love your "ugly" sweater and the flannel shirt you're wearing! would you mind sharing where they're from? xo
Wonderfully cheery holiday photos! And I think your Christmas sweater is quite fetching - not ugly at all - at it looks so sweet on you!! Happy Christmas season!
oh dear, i was thinking what a nice christmas jumper, and then i read that you were wearing it an ugly sweater party and thought oh my goodness i must have really bad taste, but having just read a few of your comments i relieved to see that some others have liked to it, so maybe my taste isnt quite so bad after all....phew...
i know its weird when people compliment your ugly sweater in a good way, but really i love your ugly sweater.
to all the lovely ladies: i kind think the sweater is cute too, but i could go either way and i was in a pinch. it's currently being sold at H & M for like 35 bucks and the flannel shirt is from Old Navy--it was on sale for like 20 bucks.
I gotta get in on the sweater loving!
If I had money I'd go get it..
I think you make a good job with getting in the spirit:)
I love your sweater. It's Christmas times 10000 ;)
xo
It's always good try to look at the world through different eyes sometimes! Happy Holidays Meg!
k - you look amazing. and really, you look like you feel amazing. you're glowing in that picture, meg fee, positively glowing!

I love that sweater! Can I steal it?
is it bad that i actually really lurve your sweater?!?!
and has anyone ever told you that you look like the stunning regina spektor?! you have her essence as well, methinks :)
sigh, one day i will have a brooklyn christmas in a cosy, little studio apartment. and a cat. that's a given.
and i totally relate to you on not seeing the beauty of your town, i live in orlando and work at the theme parks here and it's so odd for me to realize the magic of where i live somedays!
you are spot on with the familiarity thing....ever realised something has changed only to be told that it changed weeks/months ago??
claire, i LOVE this photo of you--- ugly sweater be damned- you made it look smashing! ;) your pose and paired with the plaid and your smile-- I LOVE IT! seriously. i am also loving the vintage suitcases in the background.
my favorite christmas quote: "Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful." -Norman Vincent Peale
if i had to put photos with that quote, your city would be it.

Hey, I liked that sweater!! What was funny, was that I was looking at your NY picture (the one of the houses) and was thinking how nice it would be to visity NT and just wander amon the streets admiring (and photographing) all the pretty old buildings :) Best wishes from Norway
Yes, nothing like embracing the christmas spirit!! You are prettyful. Great photos!!
Being a native midwesterner, I never thought I'd find beauty in the city at the holidays. Not so! I have been to NYC the last few years in December and it quickly changes my mind! Great photos...and that sweater is totally envy-worthy ;) have a great week! xo
New york city seems like the best place to be around this time of year. I long to be there and to be experiencing it first hand.. hopefully one day soon.
the sweater is actually really cute!!
yeah, that sweater is awesome. reindeer!
I love your hair!
I really do like that origami tree.
And I'm not sure what this says about me, but I liked your sweater.
I guess it's back to watching reruns of TLC's "What Not To Wear."
Clinton and Stacy would be so disappointed.
You are too cute, I love your dimples!
I also love Christmas and these make me smile.
Funny. My sister was just telling me about an ugly sweater contest her in-laws are having this holiday. Sounds fun!
Is it bad that I think that sweater is beautiful?...
I was thinking, aw that sweater looks so cute with that outfit!!
We'll be spending part of the season in NYC this year & I can't wait to return home. It's been years since I've been able to be there to see the hoilday decorations.
you look AMAZING! And I mean in every way of course! You just look like you feel so good too! I love that! bow chica wow wow!
Also, I'm coming in April I think. Can we meet up? And can you throw me some "must do's...? :)
It's my first time spending Christmas anywhere near the City ever - so seeing all the awesome window displays, the growing amount of Christmas decorations and catching a glimpse of the Rockefeller tree are making me smile.
