diana f+

in preparation for my 10 day sojourn to sydney (in august--still plenty of time, you'll be hearing about it for a while, prepare yourself), i have purchased two things:

1. a set black tights from H&M (it will be winter there and my standard winter uniform is black tights and boots)

2. a Diana F+ camera. but i am overwhelmed by the instruction manual. and paralyzed with fear.

i finagled my way out of work today. and this unexpected day off has left me with a whole day's worth of time. and i don't know what to do. really and truly...i am sitting in my apartment just trying to breathe.

this can't be good.

i have a diana... it is not as complicated as the manual tries to make you think... you will love it. i was in south victoria several years ago and it is such a beautiful country... you will never want to put the camera down..

I hope you have a FABULOUS time in Australia!!! I just got back in Africa and spent my time there with a couple who are from Victoria. Take lots of pictures!!!

i got my new diana a few weeks ago (great minds really do think alike!!!), and i have two recommendations:

1) get the 35mm back adapter. 120 film is so expensive to process, and while you're learning, you'll get three times the exposures per roll. the effects aren't AS cool with the 33mm than the 120, but like i said, its good while learning.

2) take notes of all the settings you use when taking your photos, so when you get them processed, you'll know what works and what doesn't. it sounds kind of elementary, but i learned this trick with crime scene processing photos (go figure, right?!?), and it really does make all the difference in learning a new camera!

I'm still learning on my holga I bought a few months ago {I'm assuming they are very similar??} We also did that 35mm trick. We just used some foam {Mr Clean white sponges to be exact} Check out this link for further instructions.

Also, just a few pointers.. it takes 30 clicks between each exposure if you're going to go this route. When you take this to Walgreens or other regular developers makes sure to them that it's going to turn out strange. We had a few trial and errors with this. It will help you learn how much light exposure {the tape} you want and other things for a much cheaper developing option. Good luck!

I think learning on a camera is often when you get the best happy accidents. It'll be fun!

And just remember: deep breaths. When I feel myself getting worked up, I breathe deep. Clear my mind. Take a minute. Then I carry on and keep trying... it's all I can do.

Meg, seriously, we ARE blog twins! Last night I (okay, Dan) bought my very own Holga! I cannot WAIT to see your beautiful photos. Have so much fun with it!

ohh you'll love it. i've had mine for about 6 months and it's endless amounts of fun. the anticipation of waiting to get the film processed is nail biting (all i've known is the immediate gratification of digital and polaroid).

don't over think the shots; just point and pull the lever. it's always a wonderful surprise.

hopefully you'll have better luck finding centers to process the film and for a reasonable price...

enjoy!

I had to go and look up that camera because for the life of me I couldn't understand why someone wouldn't just do digital. After looking at it, I now understand the following.

I've never posted to your blog, but greetings from Down Under! It's not very cold in OZ in the winter and even here in NZ, the coldest it gets is in the low 60's. Enjoy your time here, it is lovely place to be ... even in the winter.
